"The Holy Cross" with slugs (snails)?

I don't draw a conclusion, but I doubt.
According to the book Holy Blood, Holy Grail (Dell paperback edition, p. 167), the Cross of Lorraine is "The banner of the conspirators..." The Cross of Lorraine represents the Beast System which works against Christianity in the name of Christianity. Those who wear the ring are "double-crossing" Christ.
